A Cartier collection – A Declaration of Love

A Cartier Collection A Declaration of Love

Bukowskis is proud to present a magnificent collection of Cartier jewellery as a part of the Important Winter Sale anniversary auction on December 10-11. The collection was gathered during a long and happy marriage, in the form of gifts from a loving husband to his beloved wife. The exceptional collection has grown over 30 years and reflects, in addition to deep love, Cartier's exquisite aesthetics and high quality.

Many of the jewellery in the extensive collection uses two of Cartier's most iconic motifs, the panther and the scarab. These two animal motifs appear in Cartier's fauna in the 1920s, a decade when the French company exploded creatively. The panther motif was created by the legendary Jeanne Touissant, also known as Petite Panthère. She was the creative director of Cartier until the 1970s. Cartier's panther jewellery has been worn by a wide range of style icons - from the Duchess of Windsor to Jay-Z - and is almost seen as a must in every jewellery collection.

The scarab, the small beetle that in ancient Egyptian mythology represented the sun god Ra, also made its entrance at Cartier in the 20s in some of the company's most legendary jewellery. When Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, the Cartier brothers, like many others, became obsessed with collecting mania and quickly built a collection of artefacts from ancient Egypt. More than a hundred of these artefacts, including scarabs, were integrated into magnificent Cartier jewellery, which today are sold for fantasy sums when they appear on the market.

The magnificent scarab garnish with, among other things, a specially ordered ring and all the panthers in the collection - including the unusual women's wristwatch covered with diamonds - are in direct contact with Cartier's golden age and are made with the virtuoso precision that Cartier made himself known for.
